August Newsletter

Dear FUMC Family,

August always feels like a month in between. Summer isn’t quite over, but there’s already a shift in the air; schools are starting back, routines are returning, and we begin to look toward fall with its new programs, ministries, and opportunities for growth.

Here at First United Methodist Church of Malvern, we’re carrying the fruits of a faithful summer into the months ahead. Whether it was time spent in worship, mission, Bible study, youth events, or moments of rest and sabbath, I hope you experienced God’s presence in ways that nourished your soul. Children and Youth are having a full worship service on August 3 at 5:30, which is an exciting new event at our church.

This month, we’ll begin turning our focus toward the rhythm of the church’s life in the fall: the return of small groups, Back to School Events, welcoming new faces, and deepening our commitments to serve Christ through our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.

In Luke 12, Jesus reminds us: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” That’s a good word for a season like this. As we look toward new ministries and ongoing commitments, may our hearts be focused on what truly matters, loving God, loving neighbor, and seeking the kingdom together.

I’d like to ask you to do three things this month:

  1. Pray for our teachers, students, and school staff as they begin a new year. Let’s be intentional in lifting up our community’s children and those who care for them.
  2. Reflect on where God is calling you to grow. Is it in a Bible study, a new area of service, or perhaps just showing up more regularly in worship?
  3. Invite someone. A neighbor, a friend, or someone who’s been on your heart. A simple invitation to church could make all the difference.

There’s a lot ahead and I’m grateful to walk it with you.

Blessings,
Rev. Candace Barron
