Dear Church Family,
July is the month when fireworks light up the sky, cookouts fill our plates, and we pause to give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of this country. But as people of faith, July is also a chance to reflect on a deeper kind of freedom, the freedom we find in Christ.
In his letter to the Galatians, Paul writes, “For freedom Christ has set us free” (Galatians 5:1). This isn’t just about political liberty or independence. It’s about the freedom to live as people who are no longer bound by fear, shame, or sin. It’s the freedom to love boldly, serve generously, and walk in step with the Spirit.
This summer, I invite you to think about how you’re using your freedom. Are you using it to build others up? To deepen your relationship with God? To be a blessing in your neighborhood?
At First United Methodist, we’ve been living into that freedom through worship, mission, and fellowship. Whether you’ve been with us in person, online, or in spirit, I’m so grateful for the many ways you continue to embody the love of Christ.
A few things I hope you’ll mark on your calendar this month:
- Beginner Yoga: Tuesdays at 3pm in the Fellowship Hall for everyone over the age of 14.
- New Ministry Moments: This summer, we’re also trying out some new ways to engage our community—including a “Hymns on Tap” gathering (yes, you read that right!). More details coming soon.
- Lay Servant Training: August 16th at the church.
- Sunday Evening Worship Service: Once a month, a possible service led by the Children, Youth & College students.
Wherever your summer takes you, whether it’s to the lake, on a family road trip, or right here in town, I hope you’ll carry Christ’s love with you. And if you find yourself in a place where you need a word of encouragement or prayer, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Let’s continue to be the church together: in worship, in service, and in love.
Blessings,
Rev. Candace
