Dear Church Family,
October brings cooler mornings, falling leaves, and a fresh reminder of God’s presence in every season of life. It’s a month where gratitude comes easy, whether in the beauty of creation, the laughter of children, or the blessing of gathering together as a church family. This month we will celebrate in special ways: giving thanks for the animals who share our lives and reaching out with joy to our neighbors at Trunk or Treat. These events are not just “programs”, they are opportunities to live out our calling to love God, care for creation, and welcome our community.
Blessing of the Animals, Sunday, October 5 Bring your furry, feathered, or scaled friends (or a photo of them!) for a “Blessing of the Animals” service. We will meet outside in the courtyard at 2 pm. Pets are part of God’s creation and bring us companionship, joy, and unconditional love. All are welcome, invite friends and neighbors to come with their pets!
Trunk or Treat – Thursday, October 31 4–6 PM Join us in the church parking lot for an afternoon of fun and fellowship! Trunk or Treat is one of our biggest outreach events of the year. Decorate your trunk, wear a costume if you’d like, and come ready to hand out candy and share the joy of Christ’s love with our community’s children. We are asking for volunteers to host trunks and donations of individually wrapped candy. Let’s make this a safe and joy-filled Halloween for the kids of Malvern!
Worship in October Our worship this month will follow the Gospel of Luke, where Jesus teaches about faith, gratitude, persistence in prayer, and humility before God. These themes are perfect reminders for autumn, a time when we are called to slow down, give thanks, and lean deeper into God’s grace.
Looking Ahead November 2 All Saints Sunday: A special service of remembrance to honor those who have gone before us in faith. I will be out that Sunday, but you will have a wonderful preacher, Rev. Phil Hathcock who will lead you for this service. He served the Conference for over 40 years and is sure to bring you all an inspiring message.
May this October be filled with God’s peace and joy for you and your family. I look forward to seeing you in worship, at the Blessing of the Animals, and at Trunk or Treat! Plus, all the other events we have during the month.
Blessings,
Rev. Candace Barron
United in hope. Growing in love.
